Transfer from Ben-Gurion Airport to Haifa

Transfer from Ben-Gurion Airport to Haifa

Israel is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the world! The birthplace of three world religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam; the resort of three seas: the Mediterranean, the Red Sea, and the Dead Sea; the holy land - and the flow of people - from religious pilgrims to curious tourists - never stops. For example, in 2019, Israel welcomed over 4.5 million tourists. And just in September 2023 - over 340 thousand. Of course, at the moment, the tourist flow has sharply decreased, but it has not stopped completely. People are still coming. By commonly accepted global standards, the country is small, some would even say very small - the territory of Israel is 27,799 square kilometers. And you can only get to Israel by air.

You arrive at Ben-Gurion Airport. This airport is located in the center of the country. Ben-Gurion is the safest airport in the world. And that's why you should be prepared not to grumble, but to calmly pass all levels of inspection both at the departure airport and upon arrival at Ben-Gurion Airport. If you are planning to travel to northern Israel from the airport, it is best to book a transfer from the airport to Haifa. But first, let us tell you about other possible options for leaving Ben-Gurion Airport.

The city of Haifa is located 111.8 km from Ben-Gurion Airport. Approximate travel time - 76 minutes.

Haifa is the capital of the northern district of Israel. This city is distinguished by the fact that almost all of it, except for the "lower" Haifa, which is right by the sea, is located on Mount Carmel. Only very experienced drivers dare to drive on the streets of Haifa, where in some places the slopes are at a 45-degree angle. The main attraction of the city is the magnificent Bahá'í Gardens! The gardens are located on Mount Carmel and cover 200,000 square meters, rising up the mountain for a kilometer. They are arranged in terraces. These gardens are not a whim of botanists but a symbol of the Bahá'í faith. There is such a religion. At the very top, on the last, nineteenth terrace stands the Bahá'í temple. The number 19 is symbolic for the Bahá'í religion. These gardens began to be built in 1987. The architect - Fariborz Sahba from Iran, the engineering designers - Karban and Co from Haifa. Together with the Bahá'í World Center Buildings in Western Galilee, the gardens are listed as UNESCO World Heritage List . The gardens were opened to the public in 2001.

Near the Bahá'í Gardens, you can see the first German colony, built in the 19th century. The houses with thick walls and pitched tiled roofs are radically different from Israeli buildings. The colony was built by the Templars, who believed that by helping to restore Christian Palestine, they would contribute to the second coming of the Messiah.

From Tel Aviv to Haifa you can travel by train and bus. The train

departs several times a day from the Savidor station (1285 Street, 9) and arrives at Haifa-Ha-Shmona (A-Atzmaut Road, 67) approximately an hour to an hour and ten minutes later. The ticket price is 26-40 shekels.

Bus routes No. 910 and No. 921 run between Azrielli Mall (Menachem Begin Road, 132) and Hof-Ha-Karmel (Yohai Ben Nun, 1) three times an hour, taking approximately 90 minutes. The ticket price is 13-19 shekels.

You can also reach Haifa by train directly from Ben-Gurion Airport. This will take approximately 1.5 hours. But all questions about schedules and tickets for public transport must be clarified on the websites of the Israel Railways or bus companies.

We do not recommend renting a car without a driver in Israel for traveling around the country, especially if you are not a very confident driver or if you have just arrived in this country for the first time. Naturally, you can use a GPS navigator in a language you understand, but even then, driving can be quite challenging. All road signs are in Hebrew and Arabic, sometimes also in English. So, if you are comfortable with this language format, there's no problem. Secondly, it's very difficult to plan travel time, choose alternative routes if something goes wrong. In Israel, there's a curious phenomenon – distances seem short, but it always takes longer to travel than expected! What causes this – it's unclear. Whether it's the weather, traffic jams, or something in the atmosphere??? In Moscow, for example, a half-hour drive by car is no big deal, but here, it feels like you've been driving for half a day and you're exhausted. Such are the mysteries.

And thirdly, of course, it's a matter of safety. A very serious issue in our land. Unfortunately, we are surrounded, to put it mildly, by not very friendly neighbors who occasionally try to cause us trouble. Yes, there are terrorist attacks and shelling. This doesn't mean that all this happens constantly, but these factors must be taken into account and one must be prepared for such turn of events. But despite these factors, millions of people come to visit us every year. You just need to take care of your safety in advance.

A car with a professional driver is something that can really make your journey around the country more comfortable and less dangerous.

Shabbat is a sacred Saturday when everyone should be at home and devote time to family. Of course, not all people living in Israel observe Shabbat, there is freedom of choice here, but at the state level, Shabbat is observed. Besides public transport, shops, cafes, schools, kindergartens, etc., do not operate. Of course, all emergency services continue to work. But those who are going on vacation to our country should know about the conditions of Shabbat so that this news about non-operating transport and shops does not come as a surprise.
