Near the source of the Virgin Mary, on the site of the house where Elizabeth and Zachary (the parents of John the Baptist) lived, this small, but very beautiful and cozy church was built. It was Elizabeth who Mary was the first to tell about the good news she heard at the fountain.
Here they celebrated the wedding at which Jesus turned water into wine. There is a tradition that in this church or in the neighboring Greek people can renew their wedding vows.
The place on the river where John baptized Jesus is in what is now Jordan. Therefore, by decision of the Israeli government, in 1981 a place of “symbolic baptism” was built for Christian pilgrims on the Jordan River in Israel. Anyone can take a bath in the waters of the Jordan and even receive a baptismal certificate.
This is an ancient city on the shores of Lake Kinneret, where Jesus Christ preached. Jesus spent the last 3 years of his life in Capernaum. This is where the apostles Peter, Andrew, John and James come from. The ancient part of the city has been preserved only in part, but this does not detract from the interest in this place.
This is in the Tabgha Valley on the northwestern shore of Kinnerith. It was here where Jesus fed 5,000 people with five loaves and two fish. At the base of the church lies a stone on which, according to legend, Jesus placed baskets of bread and fish. The church has been rebuilt several times, but the mosaic floor has survived from the 1st century AD, which in itself is already a miracle!
The church is built on the Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus delivered his Sermon on the Mount, in which every phrase began with the word “blessed.”
